Project Post #7

Good evening,

My favorite part of street photography is observing the variety of people that walk the streets.
However, with the presence of people being limited currently, I went on a drive to search for
urban scenes. I was attracted to buildings with pattern and color, and keeping constant the presence
of humans, without having a direct person in an image. Rexer writes about how street images
are, “significant about the reality of that place and time” (59). They capture the character of a
place, and how people interact with it. Without people, the images feel empty, and the locations
feel old and nostalgic, as paint peels and metal rusts. The second image speaks to a common
sight; the recognizable colored awnings of a mild Italian restaurant. The last image speaks to
the character of the area, with muddled colors and rough ground. Overall, the images preserve
how things are at that place and time, a documentary example of reality.

Glad you’re on the planet,

Leena
