Rexer: Street Photography

Street photography has always been a hit or miss for me. Either you capture the essence of a
fleeting moment, or you are taking pictures tourist style, blurry, not composed the best, or just
not right. I have always enjoyed the idea of street photography, and how there is an endless
variety of great moments and stories to tell. Stopping time amidst the bustle of a city is such
a cool way to make unique images. As Rexer says, “They also assume the self-sufficiency of
each captured moment, as if it were distinct, discontinuous, and capable of containing whatever
might be significant about the reality of that place and time” (59). My favorite facet of street
photography are photos that contain people; each moment is so fast paced, as people live their
lives hurriedly. I enjoy how Rexer discusses how street photography evolved from documenting
historically to capturing social aspects of life, starting in big cities and recreating how we
perceive the street.
